"Sam, Sam, SigEp Man . . . Superintendant of the Skull and Bones Clan."

SigEp Sam "Remember the tune? It is still sung by followers of that genuine personality known to thousands as SigEp Sam. But Recently, questions as to the character's whereabouts have been asked more and more. Where's Sam?

During the 1950's and 60's, this portly, balding collegiate was seen coast to coast rallying young and old SigEps alike. Members and rushees of all walks of life flocked to him. Yes, he openly and gleefully sang the praises of his beloved Fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon.

In the early 1970's Sam became harder and harder to find, until he finally, mysteriously disappeared."

"Some Background on the elusive hide-and-seek Sam might be helpful. [At] the University of Oklahoma Chapter, Oklahoma Beta, [is] his birthplace. In 1956, he was mysteriously conceived by Roger Kipp, '56, and was first seen on the chapter's rush brochures going by the alias of 'Percy.' But it was only a matter of time before 'Percy' sought national fame and assumed his new identity, SigEp Sam. He's been on the lose ever since."

Excerpt from The Sigma Phi Epsilon Journal, February, 1976
